WELLNESS EXAMS

Wellness examinations are the same for your pet as the yearly physical we receive from our personal doctors. The exam gives us a chance to assess your pet’s overall health, discuss any changes we see, and educate you on treatment and the advancements in veterinary care. During our comprehensive pet wellness examination, our veterinarian will check your pet’s heart, lungs, eyes, ears, skin, teeth and gums, joints and muscles, and abdomen.

VACCINATIONS

Vaccinations will prevent many major diseases from your pet. Cedar Hill Animal Clinic recommends creating and adhering to a customized vaccination schedule as part of a comprehensive wellness plan. Vaccinations are sometimes referred to as “core”, which are recommended for all dogs & cats and “non-core”, which are recommended based on the individual pet and environmental risk factors.

SURGERY

We understand it can be stressful when making the decision for your pet to undergo surgery. Dr. Headlee has experience in small animal surgery to include spays and neuters (dog, cat, rabbit, other pocket pets), gastropexy, growth removals, and more extensive soft tissue surgeries as well as some orthopedic procedures. Any pet going under anesthesia at Cedar Hill Animal Clinic is monitored by an experienced registered veterinary technician. The technician will remain with your pet during pre-op, surgery and recovery, monitoring vitals and anesthesia, and administering any needed medications approved by the veterinarian.

EMERGENCY CARE

We are available for urgent care and emergencies. There is a veterinarian and personnel on duty during operating hours who is trained and equipped to handle the care that your pet needs.

DENTAL CARE

Pets can be burdened with dental problems and disease just like humans. Dental disease can inhibit intake of proper nutrition, cause pain, and can lead to other systemic issues that may threaten your pet’s overall health before symptoms have been noticed. With good dental hygiene performed at home, you can increase your pet’s health, vitality, and well-being as well as help ensure your pet leads the best life possible.

EXOTICS

We offer wellness care programs for birds, small exotic mammals, reptiles, poultry, goats, and pigs. We recommend physical examinations twice a year to check for health problems, as well as annual monitoring to check for nutritional and husbandry related conditions. A complete wellness appointment is strongly recommended after you have acquired your new exotic pet. This visit will include a physical examination, nutritional consultation, disease screening, and laboratory testing if necessary. We also carry Distemper and Rabies vaccines for ferrets. Providing your exotic pet with preventative care will ensure a greater chance to live a longer healthier life.

Canine and Feline Breeding and Reproduction

Breeding soundness exam: The veterinarian will assess the pet's general condition. An appropriate body condition score, adequate respiratory function, and healthy cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems are needed to support a successful pregnancy. For brachycephalic breeds, remember that any respiratory compromise can impact uterine oxygenation and health. The extra weight of a pregnant uterus can exacerbate musculoskeletal problems. If noted, skin abnormalities may indicate underlying disease. Finally, many endocrine and neurologic diseases such as hypothyroidism and epilepsy are heritable and should be ruled out prior to breeding.
Ovulation timing: Our doctor is happy to assist you with your breeding needs, including reproduction consults and ovulation timing.
Cesarean timing: We can estimate when your female dog will be due to whelp after the day she ovulated. At Cedar Hill, we schedule c-sections 62 days after ovulation so you don’t end up in the middle of the night at your local emergency clinic.
Pregnancy testing: Pregnancy can be verified with the use of a Relaxin pregnancy test at least 21 days after mating. X-ray can also be used to confirm pregnancy and to count the amount of puppies you should expect.
